Learning Community Updates

Year 5
What a term it’s been… and we still have 4 weeks to go!!
T-Shirt Design
We kicked off the term in such an exciting way! A small group of Year 5 students have been working closely with our local Koorie Education Support Officer (KESO) to design a special feature for next year’s Year 6 t-shirt.
James, Bella and Ayah explored different Indigenous symbols and storytelling elements to create artwork that is meaningful to ACS and our school community. Teachers have already seen the final images… and trust us… you are going to LOVE IT. The only downside — you’ll have to wait until the shirts arrive to see them! Keep your eyes peeled early next year!
Leadership
Year 5 have spent this term diving deep into leadership ahead of speeches for 2026 School and House Captain. Students unpacked what real leadership looks like — how leaders influence others, how they respond to challenges, and how persistence matters. They also reflected on leaders in their own lives… teachers… coaches… SRC peers… and what qualities they admired most.
We are SO proud of this cohort. The courage it took to step up, speak publicly and push through nerves was inspiring to watch. The quality of speeches this year was outstanding. We congratulate our 2026 leaders and can’t wait to see the impact they will make next year.
Colour Run
Could the colour run BE any more fun?! (…unless you were doing the laundry afterwards!)
Year 5 absolutely loved racing around the oval and getting covered head to toe in colour. Teachers and ES staff might have had just as much fun as the students! Everyone finished with colour on their clothes, faces or hair — a perfect afternoon!
Curriculum Day
Ever wondered what teachers do when no students are at school? On Curriculum Day, Year 5 teachers worked together to moderate student writing samples. We analysed structure, craft and features to identify strengths and next steps. Moderation is such an important part of ensuring consistency — and we were so proud of the growth across this cohort. We can’t wait to see where their writing goes next!
House Swimming Carnival
We had a fantastic day at Kardinia outdoor pool for House Swimming! Students competed in a range of events, cheered loudly for their house and showed incredible ACS values throughout the day. Year 5 represented our school beautifully. We can’t wait to find out which house takes the win at our next whole school assembly!
