Walk or Wheel Wednesday

For all of Term Four, OHR will have been involved in the City of Boroondara’s ‘Walk or Wheel Wednesday Challenge.’

Students have been encouraged to walk or wheel to school every Wednesday during Term 4 and log their trips to see which school has the highest proportion of walkers or wheelers. This program aims to reduce travel to school by car and to encourage walking or wheeling; cycling, scooting, and skateboarding.

Walking or riding to school helps to increase children’s physical activity, mental awareness during class and to improve their road safety skills and awareness. Giving walking or wheeling a go, even just once a week is a great way of getting families to try healthier and more sustainable travel options.

By setting Wednesdays as a regular day for healthy travel to school, families can be confident that there will be fewer cars and more people around surrounding streets. The class MPs have recorded how many students are walking or wheeling to school each Wednesday on the poster displayed in their classroom.

Here are the results for Weeks 9 and 10.

Smoothie Bike Visit

On Wednesday morning (6/12) we were extremely fortunate that because of our great support of Walk or Wheel Wednesday, Khanh and Verity from the City of Boroondara brought the Smoothie Bike to OHR. All students that wanted a go, had a turn at peddling the bike and thus making the smoothies. There was Banana Cinnamon and the clear favourite - Mixed Berries. It was also great to see that so many students brought their own washable cup so as to avoid waste.
