Vinnies Christmas Appeal

Thank you to everybody who has supported OHR's efforts for the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. There are lots of presents under the tree in the office. We also have quite a bit of food donated and through selling the zooper doopers each week coupled with gold cold donations from last Friday we have raised over $350 as well

Psalm 130:5-6

I wait for God, my soul waits for him, I rely on his promise, my soul relies on the Lord- more than a watchman on the coming of dawn.

In Prep we are learning about the season of Advent.

We understand that people wait for many different things.

Some people wait for their birthday to roll around, some people wait to see friends and family that may live far away and some people wait for the arrival of a new baby. We know that before Jesus was born, people had waited a long time for a leader or a king to come and help them.

God had promised them a leader like the Good Shepherd leading his flock. The people believed God's promise, They waited and waited....

Finally after the long wait, the day came when Jesus was born.

We are learning that Christmas is about much more than recieving gifts at Christmas time. It is about giving, caring for others, loving and reflecting on the things in our lives that are most important.

In Prep we are learning and Advent prayer, you may wish to pray it over the season with your family.

We wait for God's promise

All: Jesus come and save us!

We wait for a new day.

All: Jesus come and save us!

We wait for a better world.

All: Jesus come and save us!

Psalm 37:7

Be quiet before God, and wait patiently for him.

Below are some of the stained glass window creations we made as we reflected on the Christmas Story.

Sunday Gospel

The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

The beginning of the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah:

Look, I am going to send my messenger before you; he will prepare your way. A voice cries in the wilderness: Prepare a way for the Lord,

make his paths straight,

and so it was that John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him in the river Jordan they confessed their sins. John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey. In the course of his preaching he said, ‘Someone is following me, someone who is more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals. I have baptised you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’

Discussion Questions

1. Who is the prophet in today’s Gospel who spent time in the desert?

2. What did he do?

3. John the Baptist told people they must be sorry for the things they had done wrong so they could be ready to meet Jesus. What things do we need to be sorry for?

4. How can we change our ways so that we can be ready to meet Jesus?
