Foundation and Year 1

Preps and Year 1 students have been immersed in enhancing their punting and bouncing skills. Aimed at developing eye-hand-feet coordination, students participated in various aiming activities, mastering the art of punting a softball. They learned the significance of timing in dropping the ball and swinging the leg forward.

Last week we started to working on the skill of bouncing. These lessons emphasised the importance of rhythm and steady pace, using fingertips for better control. As the school year approaches its end, our youngest students are being introduced to more complex skills, laying the foundation for the upcoming year.

Year 2 and Year 3

Over the last four weeks, Year 2 and 3 students have been refining their dribbling skills in basketball. Engaging in a variety of group activities, students faced challenges like dribbling without looking at the ball and changing direction in small circuits. Emphasising the use of both dominant and non-dominant hands while maintaining the bounce at waist level, our students are making huge progress in their individual skill development. Simultaneously, teamwork skills are being reinforced through positive communication and strategic planning.

Year 4, 5, and 6

In the upper grades, our oldest students have been participating into modified and adapted footy games, improving their skills in marking, handballing, and punting. Teams with nominated captains are providing many opportunities for students to explore different roles within the team, using their strengths for collective success. Movement abilities have been coupled with footy skills, introducing dynamic elements to the games. The addition of penalties in these games offers valuable lessons about the consequences of actions not permitted in sports.
