Parent Survey Results

We would like to share our parent survey results for 2023 with our Newlands community. To give context to these results, we received 95 respondents and the survey covered six areas with multiple elements to each of the headings. The results for the school are compared similar schools, local schools, and all schools across the State.

We are very pleased with our results as a comparison to similar, local schools and the State. The area where our results were low was – School ethos and environment. We were marked down mainly for the condition of the buildings and grounds. We do hope that next year's survey does improve once we are in our new buildings and Gym.

Parental requests

As part of our policy, we do not act on parental requests for a specific teacher for their child. We appreciate that some parents may request a specific teacher, but we are not obliged to act on this request.

Student Placement with their friends

Each year we ask students to name at least three to five students they would like to be with in 2024. We see this as an important element of student agency and as a school we are sensitive by accommodating each child’s request by providing a minimum of one friend in the class.   As a school we don’t see classes as individual entities. We have two teachers [English & Spanish] team teaching sharing the double group of students. We feel it is important that students have a say as to who they would like to be in the class. We realise some parents may wish to involve themselves in the process, however we would encourage parents to support their child and teachers to develop the class list.

Thank you,

Ross.
