Principal Team's Report

Creating Futures Together

As we approach the end of another academic year, it is with great pleasure that I share some highlights from our school community. The pinnacle of our recent events was undoubtedly the Year 12 Valedictory, a momentous occasion where we came together to celebrate the achievements of our graduating Class of 2023.

Year 12 Valedictory

The Year 12 Valedictory was more than a ceremony; it was a heartfelt acknowledgment of the dedication and resilience demonstrated by our students, their families, and our devoted college staff. Congratulations to the Class of 2023 for successfully completing 13 years of schooling. Your hard work, passion, and commitment have left an indelible mark on our school community, and we wish you the very best in all your future endeavours.

Senior School HeadStart

As we bid farewell to our graduating class, we simultaneously welcome the anticipation of a new academic year with the commencement of HeadStart. This week marked the beginning of 2024 classes for our Year 10 and Year 11 students, setting the stage for their educational journey in 2024. HeadStart commenced with Year Level Assemblies, reinforcing expectations and fostering a positive start to the upcoming academic year.

2024 Transition Program

The 2024 Year 7 Family Information Evening was conducted on Wednesday 15th November which is just one of the transition events in Semester 2 for future students and families. The event continues to grow from strength to strength so that families attending our college are well-informed to settle in for the start of their secondary school careers. At present, we have approximately 125 students enrolled for Year 7, arriving from 28 different primary schools in our local area. We look forward to welcoming all students onsite for their Orientation Day later this term.

Connecting Schools with Indian Communities

Year 9 and 10 students presented the culmination of their work for the Connecting Schools with Indian Communities. The event was attended by college leadership, staff and Department of Education representatives from the Monash/Manningham network. The show of work by our students was fantastic and included traditional Indian dancing, cooking and speeches. A heartfelt thank you to the team led by Khairi Razaai, Jacinta Wilson and Sharon Sharpe. A special thank you too to Poonam Gadda (current parent at WHSC) and Nithya Solomon, who worked with our students in preparation for their Indian cooking and traditional performances for the event

Performing Arts

The Performing Arts team are also busy for the remainder of the year with performances at our local primary schools by the Year 7 Concert Band and Choir and Mama Mia Rehearsals continue for the College Production. As a showcase of their works in 2023, instrumental music students are performing in the Spring Concert, to be held on Monday 27th November starting at 7pm. This event will include repertoires from the Year 7 Concert Band, Stage Band and Year 9 bands.

Headspace Workshops

In our commitment to holistic education, we are pleased to announce upcoming workshops organized with Headspace for students in Years 7-9. These workshops, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, will cover essential topics tailored to each year level. Year 7 will delve into "Standing Strong: Bullying and Mental Health," Year 8 will explore "Looking Out For Your Friends: Notice, Ask Connect," and Year 9 will focus on "Self-Care: Looking after your mental health."

Furthermore, we extend an invitation to parents and carers for a dedicated workshop on Wednesday, November 29th, at 6 pm via Zoom. This workshop, facilitated by our College Mental Health Practitioner, Fosia Mohamud, aims to provide valuable insights into adolescent mental health. Participants will gain practical strategies to support their young person at home. To register for this online workshop, please contact Fosia Mohamud (fosia.mohamud@education.vic.gov.au) and Jeremy Woods (jeremy.woods@education.vic.gov.au).

Years 7-9 Activity Days

From Wednesday 13th to Friday 15th December, the Year 7-9 Activity Days will be held. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for sessions next week. Please keep a look out on Teams and emails for information and link to the sign-up survey. Further information will be provided in this communication regarding the activity choices and steps to follow, should families opt for their students to not participate in the Activity Days

As we reflect on the accomplishments of the past and look ahead to the opportunities of the future, let us continue working collaboratively to create a nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

Wishing you all a wonderful conclusion to the academic year.
