Term 4, Week 8
Welcome to Week 8. While the term is winding down quickly, we’re still busy in the library.
Page-Turner Paradise: Unveiling Our New Library Furniture!
We're thrilled to unveil the latest addition to our beloved library space - brand new, exciting furniture that provides more wonderful spaces to work, read, and enjoy being in the library.
This transformation was no small feat, as it involved lots of hard work, including the meticulous task of dismantling the old shelving and then moving our collection not once, but twice. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the incredible team of secondary helpers from Year 9 Industrial Technology, 9 Visual Art, and 7M DEAR who played a vital role in this undertaking. I must also mention the incredible assistance of Mr Brett Higgins, Mr Sam White, and Miss Claudia Cush too. Their efforts were invaluable and I couldn’t have done it without them all.
It's been truly delightful to witness the enthusiastic "oohs" and "aahs" along with the excited conversations as students from Kindergarten to Year 10 have ventured into their new surroundings. Our school is so fortunate to have such a dynamic and well-equipped learning space that adds to student educational outcomes, well-being, and enjoyment!
This Week’s Reads
This is the final week of Term 4 activities before we have some fun with Christmas books next week. Kindergarteners are reading their last beach theme book, ‘Seadog’ by Claire Saxby while Stage 1 will be enjoying ‘‘No Place for an Octopus’ by Claire Zorn.
Stage 2 will explore the comedy genre by reading a short story from RA Spratt’s, ‘Bedtime Stories’ and also complete their genre slideshows. After hearing all about Stage 3s exciting excursions, they’re going to be using the website ‘Comic Creator’ to design their very own graphic novel page to tie together all the features of graphic novels they’ve been learning about this term.
Library Lessons - Final Two Weeks
Week 9 is the final week of library lessons for K-6 and while there is no more borrowing for this year, it is time to get those overdue library books back ASAP. Overdue notices will be sent home this week so if you could please check with your child and help them look for any books, that would be appreciated. Some of the funniest library memes are about overdue books, which I have included for you this week. If you have any concerns about your child’s overdue books, please contact me at invlibrary@arm.catholic.edu.au or by phone at school.
I would love a dollar for every time I say the first one!
Meet the Readers
Meet Layla and Bethany in Year 7 who are the very first borrowers of the new Babysitters Club graphic novel.
And meet Sophie from Year 7 who requested an information book about chickens. Sophie and her friend, Maya, love to tell me about their chooks!
Billy and Kobe finished their word pop art before their excursion too. They look great!
Happy reading,
Mrs. Toni Fraser
