STEM

Thornbury Primary is proud to welcome a new specialist class this year, STEM! Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) will be taught to the upper primary during semester one and swapping to the lower primary in semester two.

At the beginning of the year, students were creating designed solutions with an emphasis on structural integrity. They were aiming to design and build a structure out of toothpicks and Blu Tack that could hold large amounts of weight!

This week in STEM, students were experimenting with block coding using Micro Bits. Students used problem solving strategies as they programmed a pet hamster onto their Micro Bits that they were able interact with. Next week students will be using Scratch to block code, design and create their own video game!
