Hello from 6C

Year 6 Billy Cart Extravaganza

This term, our Year 6 students have been using their creativity and problem-solving skills to participate in a Billy Cart challenge. This project required students to work in small groups to design and build their very own billy carts in preparation for The Great Race!

After participating in a hands-on incursion, students were able to draw on their new and existing knowledge to work collaboratively and bring their vision to life. With the help and support from parents, carers and other community members, our Year 6 cohort began constructing their cart, exploring the use of different power tools and building materials in the process. The next stage of the project had students drawing on their artistic talents to paint and decorate their billy carts. We had some outstanding designs, and the students thoroughly enjoyed the process of bringing their creations to life.

Despite some challenges and delays, the big day finally came last Friday, the 24th. We all kept our fingers crossed that the weather would hold out and were excited to see that Mother Nature seemed to be on our side! With an air of anticipation and a thunderous crowd of LPS community supporters, teams raced against each other in a knockout competition, eager and fighting for that number one spot. The competition was fierce, but more importantly, it was the teamwork and resilience demonstrated by the Year 6 cohort that really made the afternoon incredible.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their unwavering support throughout this project, which was only made possible by the time, energy and wonderful sense of humour of our LPS community!
