1J

Hello from 1J

What an enriching term of learning we've experienced in 1J!

In our Literacy sessions, we delved into the theme of Community Helpers. We have been exploring the various roles they play and the assistance they provide. Students completed a Community Helper homework assignment, showcasing their findings in engaging presentations.

Our focus in Inquiry was centred on the transformative effects of 'heating and cooling' on materials. We conducted experiments to observe the impact of temperature changes on chocolate, zooper doopers, popcorn, and jelly. Students documented their observations and insights, turning them into procedural accounts. We also got to have a yummy sampling session of the treats.

In Mathematics, our exploration centred on 3D shapes and their characteristics. Using this knowledge, students constructed miniature towns using 3D shapes. Additionally, we investigated money by engaging in activities such as counting collections and determining change. Students created their ideal canteen orders, calculated costs, and figured out the change they would get in return.

What a fantastic effort by IJ for winning the Sustainability Award for bringing the most ‘Nude Food’ lunches. Well done!!
