Principal's Report

Term 4, 2023

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank all members of our community for their outstanding contributions in making 2023 another fantastic and memorable year. When reflecting on the mixture of achievement, teamwork, new initiatives, and celebrations, you will understand my excitement for our bright future and what next year will bring.

Our well-established JumpStart Program, which sees eligible students promoted to the next year's level at the conclusion of the formal examination period, is a very productive time, and a fantastic opportunity for students to put forward their best efforts in all their 2024 classes.

Welcome to new families who have joined our learning community for this program. The transition to a new school and the commencement of secondary school can be anxious times for young people and their parents. Our Year 7 families commencing in 2024 attended a transition evening on Tuesday 28 November. This year’s guest speaker, Dr Michael Carr-Greg, is a well-known psychologist and communications specialist. Michael has broad experience in working with adolescents and families and is now a regular speaker at Dromana College events.

School Leaders for 2024

This year I had the opportunity to listen to all our senior students who put their names forward as college leaders.  Each one of these young people was truly worthy of the position and I would like to publicly commend their courage and commitment in standing for these positions. We should all be very proud of our students, they are a great credit to themselves and their families, and they are fantastic ambassadors for our college.

The school Captains for 2024 are: Savannah Coghlan, Charlotte Denman, Amira Dika, Natalia Fakos, Emrick Fornoles, and Taj King

As this year draws to a close, I would like to thank all members of our community for their terrific contributions and the enormous amount of work being done as we prepare for the end of 2023 and the commencement of 2024.  I wish all community members, students, staff, and families a peaceful and relaxing Christmas and the very best New Year celebrations.

This year we have achieved many notable successes, the most significant of these are founded in the work of individual students and their teachers, often these achievements go unnoticed or are not celebrated.  I believe the most meaningful recollections in working with young people in education are not buildings, curriculum changes, or who held which responsibility. Rather it is in valuing the individual students who made a connection, heard some advice, and acted on that guidance. These actions are woven into the fabric of Dromana College and wrapped within the college values of Respect, Responsibility, Personal Best, and Integrity. Congratulations and well done to all our students and their families on what has been a remarkable year.
