St Stephen's Students Excel at DATTA Awards

Ms Toni Smith, Middle Leader Engineering and Design

In 1993 a group of Industrial Technology and Design teachers came together to establish the DATTA (Design and Technology Teachers' Association) awards, to encourage students to pursue industrial technology and design subjects, and careers. Nine schools took part in this first competition.

Today, all secondary schools in Far North Queensland are invited to participate, with students from 27 schools taking part. There is approximately $10,000 in prize money available each year, with industry sponsors valuing the role schools play in developing students' skills in industrial technology and design.

At the recent awards: Mr Bill Dixon (Executive Director of Catholic Education Services – Diocese of Cairns), Mrs Angela Toppin (current Chair of the Business Liaison Association), and Ms Toni Smith (Middle Leader Engineering and Design - St Stephen's Catholic College).

The competition is also supported by the Business Liaison Association which organises award sponsors and the awards night.

We congratulate all students who participated, including the following St Stephen's students who received awards for their work.
