GD Tennis

On Friday the 3rd of November there were competitions running for junior boys, junior girls, intermediate boys, and intermediate girls. In the junior boys category, Mitchell Munro and Archie Templeton demonstrated exceptional skill by triumphing over challenging heats, securing victories in both A and B divisions. The junior girls displayed determination in hard-fought matches, ultimately securing a commendable second place. The intermediate boys and girls showcased their valor in their respective games, with Tara McIntyre and Lachlan Bourke emerging victorious.

All the doubles matches were tightly contested. All doubles teams placed in the top three. Ebony McClure and Claire Latta faced formidable opponents but emerged triumphant in the junior girls division. Out of a possible 12 finals, Monivae students qualified for an impressive 9, clinching victories in 5 of them and ultimately claiming the Glenelg Division Tennis title. Congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding achievements on the court!

Super 8’s Cricket Yr 7/8 Boys

The Year 7/8 boys won all their minor round games convincingly and then dominated Portland Secondary College in the final to be awarded overall winners. Runs were shared by all players, but a convincing knock by Archie Adams ensured the boys’ momentum remained up for the whole day. Hugh Prentice bowled economically and Levi Templeton behind the stumps set the standard in the field.

Super 8’s Cricket Yr 7/8 Girls

Last week we took a team of Year 8 girls to play in the district Super 8’s cricket competition at Pedrina Park.

We had some training runs in the weeks leading up to the day and the girls displayed a wide variation of skills in the practice sessions.

Our first game was against Good Shepherd College. We fielded first and the girls quickly learnt that that little red ball did not always do as it was told. Again, a variety of methods were utilized to stop the ball, some were successful, some were not. Bowling techniques showed originality with differing success rates. Good Shepherd were a little more polished and ended up winning a close game by 7 runs.

Our next game was against THAC and the girls were determined to do better and came out firing. A much-improved performance saw us having a comfortable win. Further wins against Baimbridge College and Bayview saw the girls achieve a very creditable second placing on the day.

Better players for the day were Eloise Millard who dispatched the ball to and over the boundary on many occasions, bowled very well, and executed numerous run outs. Marli Blohm, Pipi Mellington, Charli Young, Ruby Cleaver, Astrid White and Lily Raymond all tried hard and showed a great deal of improvement as the day progressed.  Well done girls.
