Year Four - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Parents,
This week students attended an excursion to Scienceworks where they explored the areas ‘Think Ahead’, ‘Beyond Perception’ and ‘Sportsworks’. They had the opportunity to explore the future of science and technology through interactive displays, physics concepts such as energy, light and gravitational waves, as well as trying their luck at running a track to see if they could beat the 2 second speed of Cathy Freeman. Everyone showed the St Thomas way demonstrating Safety, Respect and Learning with a wonderful day enjoyed by all.
Students created 3D cube drawings using isometric paper linking their designs to real-world objects. In Religion, the students delved into the time of Jesus and discussed what life was like at that time and the different seasons of the Catholic church.
Our Learning Focus this week . . .
Religious Education focus: Students will be exploring the annunciation story and the importance of Joseph in the Christmas Story to develop their understanding.
Mathematics focus: Students will be revisiting mass and capacity, measuring with scales and then recording the data.
English focus: Students will continue to read ‘The Iron Man’ and write compound and complex sentences using coordinating conjunctions to answer questions related to the text. They will also edit their persuasive texts focusing on the vocabulary and then publish their writing in preparation to read them to the class.
Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR: Students are continuing with Topic 6: Help seeking and will be performing role plays to demonstrate how we can ask for help when needed. Students will finish off the unit with a written story for younger students to help them learn how to deal with any challenges they may face.
Auslan: Students will be revising the birds and animal signs and colours they have learned before completing an assessment.
