HBPS Hair salon 

The 3/4 students have created their own hair salon at play times, they take bookings and offer a wide variety of styles from plaits to pig tails. The kids are loving it and always come out looking their best!

School Leader Selection Process - 2025

Phase 1: Clarity. 

Teachers meet with all Grade 5 students to describe and explain each leadership role and what it involves. Teachers go through all the role descriptions.  

Phase 2: Letter of Application and Speech Writing

Students write a letter of application, listing all the positions they are interested in and why they are interested in the role. They also write a short speech to present to their peers.

Phase 3: Speech Giving

Students give their speech to the Year 4 and 5 cohorts with the Executive Leadership team. Students who listen then write down their top candidate for each role available. 

Phase 4: Shortlisting for Role Appropriateness and Interviews. 

Panel of Principal Class and Year 5 teachers meet and shortlist students based on their letter of application and speech for the interview process (interviews only occur for those interested in School Captain).

Phase 5: Interviews. 

Students who would like the School Captain role are interviewed using the same questions.

Phase 6: Selection. 

Staff select students for the positions based on their letter of application, their speech and their interview and the student votes.

Phase 7: Confirmation. 

Letter sent to families, requesting confirmation of acceptance. 

Phase 8: Presentation. 

All selected Student Leaders presented at a special whole school assembly. 

Grade 6 School Captain

Hey Future Super Leader! Are you ready to guide us all to success and fun as our Grade 6 School Captain? Here’s what the role involves:

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Role Modelling: Set an example by following school rules, showing respect, and encouraging kindness.
2. Communication and Representation: Act as the voice for your fellow students, bringing their ideas and concerns to staff and proudly representing our school at events.
3. School Spirit and Inclusivity: Foster enthusiasm for school events and fundraisers, making sure everyone feels included and excited to participate.
4. Responsibility and Accountability: Support teachers and staff, help maintain a safe and friendly school environment, and encourage others to do the same.
5. Weekly Duties:
   • Assembly: Organise and run both Whole School and Year Level assemblies.
   • Token Shop Shift: Work one shift per week at the token shop to support our reward system.
   • Lunch Club: Assist at one lunchtime club each week, helping to make it a fun and inclusive space for all.
6. Other Duties:
   • School Tour Leader: Take prospective families on school tours sharing with them what and how we do things at HBPS.

Grade 6 House Captain

As a House Captain, you’re at the heart of our house system, building team spirit and togetherness. Ready to lead?

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Team Building: Inspire house members to give their best in school, sports, and other activities.
2. Sportsmanship and Participation: Encourage participation in events, promoting a strong sense of sportsmanship.
3. Event Coordination: Plan and support house events, including lunchtime clubs, house assemblies, and pep rallies.
4. Mentorship and Support: Guide younger students, making them feel welcomed and valued.
5. Communication: Keep house members informed and celebrate achievements.
6. Weekly Duties:
   • Token Shop Shift: Take one shift each week to support the token system.
   • Lunch Club: Work one lunchtime club per week, helping students connect and enjoy activities.
   • House Assembly: Organise and run House Assemblies every 3 weeks based around connecting with your house peers and building a strong sense of community and belonging.
   • Sport Hour Equipment Organisation: Prepare equipment for each year level’s sport hour.

What You’ll Need:

• Strong teamwork skills, enthusiasm for house spirit, and commitment to inclusivity.

Grade 6 Art Captain

Bring colour and creativity to our school as the Art Captain!

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Artistic Leadership: Inspire students to explore their artistic talents and try new creative projects.
2. Art Events and Exhibitions: Collaborate on art shows and school displays that highlight student artwork.
3. Support and Mentorship: Encourage others in their art journeys and create a welcoming environment for all skill levels.
4. Artistic Initiatives: Lead school-wide projects like murals and themed displays.
5. Communication: Promote art events within the school and through social media.
6. Weekly Duties:
   • Token Shop Shift: Take one shift in the token shop each week.
   • Art Club: Host or assist at the Art Club one lunchtime per week, sharing techniques and fun projects.

What You’ll Need:

• Passion for visual arts, creative thinking, and strong organisational skills.

Grade 6 Performing Arts Captain

Shine on stage and spread the love for performing arts throughout our school community.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Inspiration: Set an example of dedication in music, dance, and theatre.
2. Event Coordination: Plan performances and coordinate logistics, from rehearsals to costumes.
3. Skill Development: Organise lunchtime workshops and clubs to develop performing arts skills.
4. Promotion: Publicise performances and events to maximise school involvement.
5. Support: Encourage and support fellow performers, helping them feel confident.
6. Weekly Duties:
   • Token Shop Shift: Work one shift per week in the token shop.
   • Performing Arts Club: Help run a performing arts club one lunchtime each week.
   • Assembly Set Up: Set up the PA system each week for the Whole School Assembly.

What You’ll Need:

• A love for the performing arts, leadership, and the ability to connect with others.

Grade 6 Environmental Captain

Lead the charge for a greener school and planet as the Environmental Captain!

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Environmental Education: Share knowledge about sustainability through workshops and presentations.
2. Initiative Leadership: Organise projects like tree planting and recycling drives.
3. Waste Management: Promote and oversee recycling and waste reduction programs.
4. Community Engagement: Lead clean-up events and participate in gardening clubs.
5. Communication: Inform the school about eco-initiatives and involve everyone in sustainability efforts.
6. Weekly Duties:
   • Token Shop Shift: Work one shift at the token shop weekly.
   • Trash to Treasure Club: Run or assist with an eco-focused lunchtime club once a week.

What You’ll Need:

• A passion for the environment, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to positive change.

Grade 6 Technology Captain

Be a leader in promoting STEM learning and inspire a passion for all things technology math in our school community.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Technology Buddy: Help classmates with technology-related subjects and activities.
• Innovation Leader: Organise technology challenges, coding sessions, or project groups.
• Problem-Solving Champion: Encourage peers to think critically and creatively to solve problems.
• Technology Events: Assist in planning and running technology -focused events such as science fairs, robotics competitions, or coding workshops.
• Mentorship: Support peers in setting technology goals and working through challenges.

Weekly Duties:

• Token Shop Shift: Work a shift each week in the token shop.
• Technology Club: Lead or participate in a technology -focused club during lunch.
