As the sun sets on the 2024 academic year, I thank you all for your commitment to our wonderful school in 2024. Our school boasts an outstanding reputation, characterised by a supportive and engaged community, a truly committed and professional staff, and most importantly incredibly wonderful students. There have been so many triumphs this year – both big and small – and we now eagerly look forward to the Christmas holiday break, different rhythms and routines for a while and the excitement of 2025.
This year we have continued to strive for excellence in everything we do. We have lived out our school theme of Respect, ably led by the 2024 Student Guild, and we have grown as a school – with 550 students finishing the school year as members of the St George’s Family.
Our school theme for 2025 will be ‘Find your Brave’. It is a theme that empowers our School Community to step outside of their comfort zone and to challenge themselves to try something new, try something different and perhaps even try something that they have never considered or imagined themselves achieving before - even if it scares them. Our 2025 Student Leadership Team already have some terrific ideas in this regard, and I look forward to working with them to bring this theme to life from the start of Term One.
Presentation Night was an amazing evening. The Christmas Lights sparkled as did our many significant prize winners and it was a splendid way to celebrate the many achievements, accolades and accomplishments of the year. A huge and heartfelt congratulations to all our award recipients as well as to their friends and family who eagerly cheered them on with rapturous applause. It was also a night where we learnt a new word – hurkle durkle – to those of you in attendance, I wish you all lots of hurkle durkling in the holidays! – to those unable to join us you might just need to investigate the meaning of this 19th Century Scottish word.
The House Cup was an exciting tie this year between Gandhi House and Mandela House – who would have imagined this?! Tokens, commendations and points were triple checked by Mr Thompson, Head of Pastoral, as well as each of the three Heads of House - but a tie it was. Congratulations to both Houses, and to all Lincoln, Mandela and Gandhi House students who contributed to the many and varied House events or received House tokens for their efforts throughout the year. The competition for 2025 will, I am sure, be an exciting one and with the launch of a new house in July 2025 – Cowan House – let the battle for the 2025 House Cup begin!
I wish all our St George’s Families the very best for the upcoming Christmas Season. Whether you are embarking on a holiday journey or staying close to home, whether you are enjoying the company of family from near or far or just spending time with friends, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a fantastic summer holiday. Have a safe and restful break.
Enjoy the holidays and we look forward to seeing you in 2025 for another great year at St George’s. Blessed Christmas to you all,
