Principal's Views

Term 4 is already flying by and we are almost at the halfway mark! A few highlights over the past 2 weeks.

Italian Day

Today we are celebrating Italian Day with Spectacular Spetacolo. Everyone has been joining in the fun watching the amazing performance and doing Italian activities in their classes. Thanks to Bec and Giuliana for their amazing organisation. There will be more updates in the next issue of the newsletter.

Staff Spotlight

Teachers in the early stages of their practice undertake a process to  move from Graduate to the Proficient teacher level of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. This work is undertaken in collaboration with other mentors who provide feedback and support in the development of their practice.

Recently Emma, Bec W, Amy W, Sun and Emilia  all completed their full registration process with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, which involves presenting to a panel including the leadership team and their mentor.  We congratulate them for all of their amazing work. Thanks to their mentors for supporting them.

Over the last two weeks we have farewelled Alyssa as she begins her family leave and Maddy T who is returning home interstate for family reasons.

We also congratulate Rhys (our facilities manager), Amanda and Reggie on the safe arrival of baby George.

Student Spotlight

William Hua competed in the Victorian State Track and Field Finals - Boys 11 Years Long Jump yesterday and came 8th in the State! More to follow in the Sports Update in the next Newsletter.

Our preps held an excursion to the zoo, where students had an amazing time learning new facts about all of the animals. You will love the photos in this newsletter.

Our Year 1,2 and 5 swimming programs got off to a terrific start this Wednesday and Thursday and will continue for the next 4 to 5 weeks. Students have been very lucky to attend the heavily subsidised program, only costing $30.

The program offers a range of benefits, including enhanced water safety skills, improved physical fitness, and the development of vital swimming techniques. With Australia’s outdoor lifestyle and proximity to water, learning to swim is an essential life skill, especially for young children. The program provides a safe, supportive environment where students can build confidence in the water, gain important survival skills, and develop teamwork and perseverance through regular practice. Thank you for investing in your child’s health, safety, and future!

We’ve had some other great sporting achievements over the last two weeks, in particular in tennis and girls’ cricket teams. We have 9 students who made it through the Whittlesea Division and are competing in the Northern Metropolitan Regional Tennis Tournament today. Also our girls’ cricket team recently came runners up in the Whittlesea Division cricket grand final. Keep an eye out in the next newsletter for a sports wrap up.

Whittlesea show

We had a hugely successful Whittlesea show with 34 prizes awarded. A big thank you to Adele for the work she puts in over 3 terms to prepare student artwork. Also to the rest of the team Shelly, Con (yr 6 creative writing) , Branka (produce) and Kim (support) for their commitment to showcasing our students' creativity via the art show. You can see the winning pieces in the front office of the school.

2025 Prep Transition

We had our first prep transition session yesterday with around 70 preps in attendance. There will be two more sessions over the next two Thursdays for our new 2025 preps to become familiar with our school environment and teachers. We are so excited to welcome them and their families to the EVPS community.

As we prepare for 2025 and finalise classes, please remember to let us know if your child will not be attending EVPS in 2025. Call the office on 8401 3791.

Traffic safety and gates

A reminder that gates are open between 8:45am and 9am, and gates are locked at 9am. If you are dropping off after this time, your child must be accompanied to the front office and signed in by an adult.

If you are approaching a gate after 9am, the teacher supervising the gate is unable to hold it open and you will need to go to the front office. Staff on gates are required for other duties at 9am.

We kindly ask for your cooperation in arriving on time. We do understand that there are roadworks at the moment and there have been some delays. Please allow extra time to arrive at school by 8:50am.

Our thoughts are with the Auburn South Primary School students, families, staff and wider school community. This is a timely reminder for increased road safety around the school, and to refrain from making u-turns near crossings. Please use the round-a-bouts to turn safely.

Please see the traffic safety and parking around schools flyer from the Whittlesea Council.

📚 School Yearbook – Bookings close this Sunday 10th November

It’s time to capture all those special moments in one beautiful keepsake – the school yearbook! This wonderful memento will remind us of the incredible experiences, friendships, and growth we've all shared throughout the year.

To ensure you don't miss out on having your very own copy, remember to place your order as soon as possible. Our dedicated yearbook team has put in a lot of effort to create a memorable collection of photos and stories.
