First Aid Training
Hannah Della Gatta
First Aid Officer
Schools are typically among the safest places for our young people, especially when teachers and staff are equipped with proper first aid training.
Teachers and school staff have numerous responsibilities that extend beyond delivering quality education. One of their key duties is ensuring the safety of students while on school grounds. Given the active environment of a school, it's no surprise that medical emergencies—both minor and major—can occur.
Hands-on, professional First Aid learning is mandatory for teachers. Every year the school provides full training for any unqualified staff, as well as first aid refresher courses so that others can practice their skills and learn any new tips and techniques.
Additional training (such as Anaphylaxis training) is also conducted throughout the year, to ensure that our staff can respond quickly and effectively to any emergency situation. The school also hosts a defibrillation unit.
Making time for this and other mandated training often sees staff being "students" for the day!
The Department of Education makes allowance for this by providing the opportunity for Professional Learning Days as part of the school year - better known to our community as Student Free Days.
Our First Aid Training is run in this last week of Term 4, ensuring that this mandated training will not impact the student timetable next year.
