Year 2: CERES Excursion

Yin Kik Li, Year 2 Teacher

On Monday 28 October, the Year 2 students embarked on an excursion to CERES, where they explored aspects of the local waterways and land. They discovered what makes a healthy environment through engaging, hands-on explorations at CERES Park.

The knowledgeable educators guided the students in considering the impacts humans have on local waterways and how small actions can have big consequences for local flora and fauna. In response, the students created bee baths to provide a safe and inviting environment for pollinators.

Students collaborated in small groups to explore local wetlands and discover the variety of life they support. This required patience and perseverance, as the little creatures were tough to catch.

Caring for the environment required the students to understand the water cycle and name each step: collection, evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. Their knowledge was further extended as they identified ways our everyday actions impact the water cycle in both positive and negative ways.

We hope that the students will be inspired to take action, care for God’s creation, and make a positive impact on our local and wider community.

Step Into Prep

Helen Reid, Prep Team Leader

After weeks of anticipation we welcomed the 2025 Preps to Donvale on Thursday. Most of the children were excited to enter the classroom and play. Many delighted in seeing kinder or church friends in the same group.

Others were more hesitant, but with the help of Year 6s and other staff, eventually all children joined in with the group. Halfway through the session the children went into a different room to meet a different teacher. Reading a story, singing songs and completing a craft were all good ways for teachers to see how the children respond to a whole class activity. All too soon it was time to pack up and rejoin parents. There were lots of huge smiles and hugs for parents as we said goodbye.

The Prep team look forward to seeing the children again before we welcome them officially in 2025.
