We are learning to recognise the use of figurative or descriptive language and how it adds to the quality of a text. 


VOCABULARY

Figurative language- It is the use of non-literal phrases or words to create further meaning in writing or speech. Figures of speech are an example of this, such as similes and metaphors. However other devices, such as alliteration, can also be used to communicate an image, meaning or idea.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read a text and identify the figurative language in the text.

 

Discuss what type it’s and how they know it is. Justify with evidence from the text. 

 

Discuss the purpose of the figurative language.

 

Discuss whether the figurative language added quality to the text. Justify with evidence.
