Homeless Sleep Out 2025
On Thursday 18 September, 18 Year 10–12 students participated in the annual homeless sleepout. The purpose of this event was to raise awareness and empathise with the ongoing challenges for those in our community who experience homelessness, financial instability, and displacement. Students heard from volunteer guest speakers from Uniting, who spoke about the challenges facing young adults and children, and the impacts of homelessness on their lives and mental health. During the evening, they also engaged in activities to better understand the way privilege and disadvantage can influence every facet of people’s lives.
The students created their own sleeping spaces with cardboard and bedding and warmed themselves by the fire. A particular highlight was an impromptu campfire jam session with acoustic guitar accompaniment. This was an incredibly successful night and a great opportunity for students to come together and develop a broader understanding of the importance of charity, community outreach, and supporting those less fortunate.
Celebrating Culture and Achievement
On Friday 12 September, students, families and educators gathered at Rydges Melbourne for the 2025 Victorian Catholic Education Association (VCEA) Year 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Graduation Recognition Dinner.
This annual event is a highlight of the education calendar, providing an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as they complete their secondary schooling.
Year 12 student Shaun Haslett, accompanied by his family and House Leader Mrs Nicole Sutton, proudly represented the College at this special occasion. The evening was a beautiful reflection of culture, pride and achievement — an opportunity to acknowledge Shaun’s dedication, resilience and the strong support that has guided him throughout his educational journey.
VCE VM
Melbourne Excursion
Our Year 12 VCE VM students recently enjoyed a memorable excursion to Melbourne, marking the completion of their final outcomes for the year. The day was filled with opportunities to apply key interpersonal skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving in real-world settings.
The first stop for the day was RMIT University’s City Campus, where students explored one of the largest offerings of vocational and entry-level courses in Victoria. They participated in a hands-on electrical workshop, constructing simple circuits like those used in residential buildings. This activity provided valuable insight into practical trade-based learning and potential future pathways.
Next, students put their teamwork to the test in an Amazing Race around Melbourne’s CBD. Working in small groups, they were challenged to solve cryptic clues, navigate the city using public transport, and locate key landmarks. This experience encouraged independence, collaboration, and quick thinking while offering a fun and interactive way to explore the city.
To finish the day, students tackled an Escape Room challenge, where they needed to think creatively and work efficiently under pressure to solve a series of puzzles and codes before time ran out. The activity once again highlighted the importance of communication, critical thinking, and collective problem-solving.
Congratulations to all our Year 12 VCE VM students on completing their studies and for demonstrating outstanding teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the day.
Tree Planting Program
On Tuesday, 7th October, our VCE VM students took part in a Tree Planting program in partnership with the Wellington Shire Council. This community initiative provided students with a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the local environment while deepening their understanding of sustainability and the importance of preserving native habitats.
During the session, students worked alongside council representatives to plant a variety of native trees and shrubs in a designated revegetation area. These plantings play a vital role in restoring natural ecosystems, supporting biodiversity, and providing safe habitats for native wildlife.
The activity also connected directly to key elements of the VCE Vocational Major curriculum, encouraging students to engage with community projects, demonstrate teamwork, and apply practical problem-solving skills in real-world contexts. Beyond the environmental impact, the day promoted a sense of pride and responsibility as students witnessed the positive outcomes of their collective efforts.
A big thank you to the Wellington Shire Council for their ongoing partnership and support, and to our students for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to sustainability.
Exploring Body Systems in Year 8 Science
Today, our Year 8 students took part in a ‘pluck’ dissection, examining the heart, lungs and liver as part of their unit on body systems — including the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems.
Students observed how the trachea branches into bronchi and bronchioles within the lungs, and used a simple pump to demonstrate how the lungs expand, growing to nearly three times their original size!
In their next class, students will work in small groups to dissect the heart and complete a practical report, applying their knowledge through hands-on learning
Year 9 Art
Our Year 9 Art students have recently completed an impressive observational drawing and watercolour project, inspired by two of the College’s most iconic spaces — the St Pat’s building and the Charism Garden. Working from direct observation, students carefully sketched their chosen scene before applying hatching techniques and watercolours to bring their work to life.
The task encouraged students to explore the Art principles of Line, Tone and Colour, developing their technical skills and artistic expression. The finished pieces beautifully capture the character and atmosphere of these much-loved College locations.
