Celebrations of Learning and Community

The Resilience Project
We are very excited to announce that Hazel Glen College has partnered with The Resilience Project for 2026. The aim is to teach simple strategies to Secondary Years students, which they can use to promote their overall wellbeing and enhance their resilience. The key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy create the framework of lessons which will be explicitly taught during Year 7-12 iThrive lessons and in other aspects of the College. The Resilience Project is an evidence-based program that helps create lifelong wellbeing habits for the entire Hazel Glen Community (students, staff and families). Please view the event on Compass and pay $10 to receive the student journal for the beginning of 2026 College year.
2025 College Dux & VCE Results
With VCE Results being published to our Class of 2025 last week, we would like to acknowledge the College Dux for 2025, Samuel Matthews, who achieved an outstanding ATAR score of 95.6.
Samuel's strong work-ethic and diligent preparation for his end-of-year exams allowed him to perform to a high standard in all subject areas, which included English, Chemistry, Biology, Maths Methods and Psychology throughout 2025, and also General Maths in 2024. Samuel has already been offered a scholarship at University, however he is still considering his University options for 2026 and beyond.
We would also like to recognise the efforts of our entire VCE cohort, as well as our VCE teaching staff of 2025, who all contributed to increasing our Median Study Score by two points to 28. This places us around the top for Government Schools within the Whittlesea Network of Schools and is a testament to the efforts of both our students and our staff throughout 2025. It should also be acknowledged that the % of 40+ Study Scores remained constant at 2.7%, which is a good outcome for our College and one we will continue to strive to improve in 2026 and beyond.
Secondary Years Academic Excellence Awards
On Wednesday the 10th of December, we celebrated students who have achieved academic excellence in 2025. The award recipients were acknowledged for their extensive commitment to their studies across the year, demonstrating excellence in various learning tasks and assessments. We also acknowledged a number of special awards, alongside Citizenship and Co-Curricular awards. Congratulations again to all students who received an award. It has been a privilege to recognise your success and to teach you.
VIT Celebrations
This year, a number of our provisionally registered teachers received their full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Part of this includes undertaking an extensive inquiry into an area of interest relating to their teaching practice. The inquiry is presented to a panel, including the College Principal and other members of leadership. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful work and commitment of our Graduate Teachers: Mr Williams, Ms Johnstone, Ms Maggio, Ms Velves, Mr Dhawan, Mr Smith, Mr Wu, Ms Atherton, Ms Maffodda, Mr Fitzgerald, Ms Tingzhi and Mr Lambourn.
