Platypus Classroom

Literacy
The Platypus class has begun our new unit on authority. We have been learning about the small and unique Macquarie Island and the devastating impact human activity had had on its environment. Students will be using the text and author's position to create a persuasive text on whether our government should continue to protect Macquarie Island and other natural places like it. We have already help very in-depth discussions around this topic over the past week. Stay tuned to find out what our students think!
Mathematics
In maths, our overarching focus this past fortnight has been around division. Stage 2 students have been learning to partition 2-digit and 3-digit numbers into smaller, more manageable multiples to help them divide. Stage 3 have been multiplying and dividing decimals to find equivalent measurements.
Class Pet
We have also welcomed a new class pet to the Platypus classroom. He is currently without a name, but that will chage at the end of the week when students hold a class vote. We thought this would be a great opportunity to explore the voting process and put it into practice, particularly as our Stage 3 students head to Canberra next week!
