An Invitation to Join Our School Communication Focus Group

As part of our ongoing School Improvement work, we are looking at how we communicate with families, students, and the wider community. To ensure we hear a broad range of voices, our School Council President, Leanne Hull, and Mitch Harris, Assistant Principal, will co‑chair a focus group to explore what is working well and what could be improved.

The group will provide perspective to the school’s leadership team by sharing experiences, views, and recommendations.

We aim to hold our first meeting in Week 4 of Term 1.

Purpose

To provide recommendations and practical strategies that strengthen parent and community engagement, ensuring diverse voices are reflected in school communication.

Scope

The focus group will provide perspective to the school leadership team on:

how parents currently engage with the school and identify areas for improvement.
opportunities to strengthen communication between the school, parents/guardians, students, and the broader community.

Group Composition

The group will include:

Up to 2 school staff members
Up to 2 School Council members
Up to 2 parents/guardians (not currently on School Council)
Up to 2 student representatives
Up to 2 community representatives

Objectives

Provide recommendation to improve the clarity and consistency of school communication.
Provide awareness to the school leadership on how to increase parent participation in school activities.
Give perspective on what will strengthen relationships between families, teachers, staff, and students.

- Chronicles – purpose, use, and how to ensure families are aware
- Learning Tasks – how they support learning at home and shared understanding
- Reporting – purpose, clarity, and how teachers use reports to communicate with families
Newsletter – frequency, format, and content

Upcoming Camps

Year 7 Camp

Year 7 students will attend camp at the Outdoor School (Bogong) from Monday 23 February to Friday 27 February 2026.

This camp is an important transition activity that helps students build relationships, identify personal growth goals, and establish connections with staff.

All students are encouraged to attend. Individual planning can be arranged by contacting Josh Davies (Student Engagement Leader).

Year 9 Future Makers Program

Year 9 students at Mount Beauty Secondary College annually participate in the Future Makers program at the Outdoor School (Bogong). Running across two school weeks, from Monday 23 February to Friday 6 March, therefore will require planning. The program encourages students to reflect on their personal qualities, strengthen relationships as they enter senior schooling, and consider pathways beyond their high school years.

Each camp experience is unique, and we strongly encourage parents/guardians to attend the information evening.
