Prep News

Hello Prep Families,
I can’t believe we are almost at the end of week 3 already! The time has flown by.
Little Learners Love Literacy
This week in literacy we met some of Milo’s friends:
Felix the Frog, who makes the /f/ sound
Ally the Alligator, who makes the /a/ sound – our first vowel
The children are now starting to blend letters and sounds to read words. For example, s-a-m makes Sam and a-m makes am. Soon they will bring home reading practice activities, including decodable books that only use the eight Stage 1 letters and sounds. When you read with your child, encourage them to sound out words they don’t know. This is called decoding and it’s such an important skill!
Maths
In maths, we continued exploring numbers. Early in the week, we created our own collections of our favourite numbers from 3 to 9, and later we played some games to help us count to 5 and recognise objects to 5. The children loved showing all the different ways they could represent numbers.
Inquiry
This term for Inquiry we are exploring how to be good friends! We watched a episode of Bluey and identified when they were being kind or unkind to their friends. We then drew a picture of how we can be good friends.
Buddies
We had our first buddy session this week! We had so much fun reading the book ‘Not A Stick’. Then we went into the yard with our buddies to find a stick and turn it into a new creation. Come check out our creativity on display in the hallway
Friendly reminders
I have put up a noticeboard outside our classroom – come and have a look
Homework starts next week and will be collected on Friday morning
Thank you for your support. I love sharing all the learning that is happening in Prep!
Warm regards,
Felicity Jenkins
