Returning to School: Supporting Student Wellbeing
Welcome to the 2026 school year for our new and returning students and their families.
As we begin a new term and welcome students back to school, it’s an important time to focus not only on learning, but also on wellbeing. Returning to school—whether after holidays, a break, or a change in routine—can bring a mix of emotions for children. Excitement, curiosity, nervousness, and even worry are all completely normal.
At school, we understand that wellbeing is the foundation for learning. When students feel safe, supported, and connected, they are better able to engage, learn, and thrive. Our staff are taking time to help students settle back into routines, reconnect with friends, and feel comfortable in their classrooms. We are encouraging open conversations, kindness, and emotional awareness as part of everyday school life.
You may notice that your child needs a little extra reassurance during this transition. Simple routines at home—such as regular sleep times, healthy lunches, and calm mornings—can make a big difference. Taking time to talk with your child about their day, listening to their feelings, and validating their experiences helps them feel heard and supported.
It’s also helpful to remind children that it’s okay to ask for help. At school, students are encouraged to talk to their teacher or a trusted adult if they are feeling worried, overwhelmed, or unsure. We work closely together to ensure every child feels included and supported.
As always, wellbeing is a shared journey between home and school. If you have any concerns about your child’s emotional or social wellbeing, please don’t hesitate to reach out. By working together, we can help every student feel confident, connected, and ready to learn as we move forward into the term.
Please feel free to email Kelly.Goodgame@education.vic.gov.au or Hayley.Nixon@education.vic.gov.au if you have any questions or need support for your child or yourself.
