What's been happening in the 1/2 Area........

Grade 1/2 students have been exploring Two Mates by Melanie Prewett, which chronicles the adventures of Jack and Raf, two mates growing up in the Kimberley. From catching frogs and hunting goannas, to swimming at the beach, the story celebrates friendship, inclusion, culture and connection to place.

As part of our learning, students unpacked key vocabulary from the text, discussed themes and made personal connections. They then reflected on their own friendships by writing about their mate, describing what makes those relationships special.

Good friends are the best people to play with you when you are bored or you are sad. Grace is a really, really good friend because she always takes care of me when I am sad. Also Mackenzie is a really good friend too because she is always up to games that I LOVE!!!

Ormond Geary - 2B

I’m going to tell you about my mate Benji. My favourite things about Benji are that he is funny. One of the best memories I have with Benji is when I scored a goal on Benji. I feel lucky to have Benji as a mate because he is fun to play with. He makes me feel happy.

As part of our History unit, the Grade 1/2 students have been exploring celebrations from around the world and learning about the traditions and stories behind them. This week we focused on Lunar New Year, discovering how it is celebrated in different cultures and what the symbols mean. Students enjoyed getting creative by designing and making their own colourful lanterns, proudly sharing their work and new learning with classmates.
