Cassia 1 & 2 News

We are already almost at the end of Week Two of 2026, and the Cassia classes are beginning to settle in beautifully. These first weeks have been all about getting to know one another, finding our feet, and learning the rhythms of our week together. It is joy to watch the new children becoming more at ease in the space and with each other and the older children return with a new confidence.

Much of our time so far has been spent in play, both indoors and outside. It’s been lovely to see the children begin to relax into the space, connect with one another, and find their rhythm.

A steady weekly rhythm helps hold the children and gives them a sense of predictability and security. As the days begin to find their flow, our Term 1 rhythm is taking shape like this:

On Mondays, we share apple muesli for morning tea, before spending the afternoon working with beeswax or clay.

Tuesdays begin with painting and rice play, and in the afternoon we draw together.

On Wednesdays, the children help with bread making in the morning, followed by wet felting in the afternoon.

Thursdays is hummus, crackers and carrots for morning tea. The younger children go home at 12.30 and the older children stay and craft in the afternoon.

Fridays are our garden days. The older children spend the day working and playing in the garden, we enjoy apple slinkies and popcorn for morning tea, and we finish the week with a picnic under the Mulberry tree.

Before we share our food, we say this blessing together:

Mother Earth and rain and sun
Bring happy food to everyone
Crisp round apples, nuts and wheat
Thank you for the food we eat.

As part of caring for the spaces that hold this rhythm, we warmly invite our Cassia families to our Working Bee on Saturday 7th February, from 8:00–10:00am. We’ll spend the morning tending and beautifying the gardens and play areas the children enjoy every day. Please come along if you’re able, even for a little while, it’s a lovely chance to meet one another, lend a hand, and strengthen our class community.

There will be jobs such as weeding, digging, raking, sanding, oiling and washing. If you can, please bring shovels, gloves, rakes or wheelbarrows (and it’s helpful to name your tools). We’ll have cold watermelon ready for the children for morning tea.

We really look forward to seeing you there.

Regards,

Sophie
