⏰ Attendance, Arrivals and Departures

We know that from time to time, circumstances arise that mean students may arrive late, leave early or be absent from school. Clear communication helps us ensure students are safe, accounted for and supported throughout the school day.

Late arrivals or early departures

If your child will be arriving late or needs to leave early, we ask that parents or carers ring or SMS the school prior to 8:40am to let us know. This helps us support a smooth and safe transition for your child.

When arriving late or leaving early:

• Students are asked to report to the office first to collect a slip
• This slip is provided to the classroom teacher on arrival or departure
• Students must return to the office to sign out when leaving early

These steps ensure we know where students are at all times and can maintain the safety and good order of the school.

Extended Absences (Longer Than 10 Days)

For absences longer than 10 school days, parents are required to complete an Exemption for Attendance form. This process allows the school to formally consider the request and ensure appropriate planning and support.

Please note:

• Exemptions must be approved by the Principal
• An exemption from attendance does not provide an exemption or adjustment to assessment timelines
• Families are encouraged to refer to The Gap SHS Assessment Policy for further information

We encourage families to communicate with the school early if an extended absence is anticipated, so we can work together to support your child’s learning and wellbeing.
