Having a ball: picture special

2026 has certainly started fast, and it is amazing to think that we are now at the end of Week 3!

These past weeks have been a blur of excited, positive and joyful energy across the two buildings, and I have to say I have been amazed by the kindness and warmth I have received from the St George’s community in my first few weeks here. It has been so lovely to have so many new faces come say hi to me and welcome me to the city.

Senior Students’ Day was my first opportunity to meet the classes of 2026 and 2027. This day was an important one as the Year 11s and 12s had the opportunity to meet their teachers, receive their course outlines, and understand the expectations, which helped them in preparation and organisation for the year ahead. This led into the highly anticipated Year 12 Ball at Mandoon Estate that we had at the end of Week 1. The evening was spectacular and filled with incredible outfits, music and dancing. A beautiful celebration of the commencement of the final year for our Year 12 students. A special thank you to our Ball Committee, who dedicated a large amount of their time towards this event, and who should be proud of the success of the night.

Week 2 brought the Year 12 and Student Leaders Commissioning Service at our lovely St. George’s Cathedral. This event saw our Year 12s don their “Year 12” badges onto their blazers, receive their Year 12 ties, and recite their leadership oath. Further, it was an opportunity to inaugurate our elected Student Leadership Team into their official roles for 2026.

A special mention to our Electrocity Group who performed at Fringe Festival in Week 2 over two special nights. It was a privilege to watch such an incredible group of talented musicians play a set of their own music. The group had created beautiful songs (with some interesting titles), and the lyrics, melody, instrumental components and harmonies all formulated by the band itself. Thank you to Mr P as well for leading these talented students.

We also had the privilege of welcoming our 2025 top academic performers back to congratulate them on their achievements at the High Flyers Assembly in Week 3. A truly remarkable feat for our Class of 2025 to achieve the top median ATAR ever at St. George’s at 87.95!

Finally, thank you to the parents who attended the New Parents’ Sundowner in Week 2 and the Year 12 Parent Information Night in Week 3. We hope that both evenings provided valuable opportunities to meet other parents, meet staff and to provide clarity for the year ahead. I truly enjoyed meeting you all over these two evenings.

Our school theme, Embrace, Excel, Empower, speaks directly to where our Year 11 and 12 students are currently. To embrace is to step confidently into the challenges of senior school in new responsibilities, higher expectations, and important choices about the future, whilst staying grounded in our incredible community and its values. To excel means to strive for personal bests, not only academically, but also in character, leadership and service.

This year, I hope we all take the opportunity to show moments of embracing, empowering and excelling, both within our St George’s community and out in our incredible city.
