Silly Socks for the Summit

Today was Silly Socks for the Summit – a fun, colourful fundraising event in which students and staff were encouraged to wear their silliest socks and bring along a gold coin donation. This initiative was part of our fundraising journey for the Central Park Plunge, which will take place in Term 4, and supports eight members of our school community (a mix of students and staff) taking part in this exciting challenge.

Our team’s goal this year is to raise $8,800 through a range of activities, with all proceeds going to Anglicare WA – a leading non-for-profit organisation that makes a real difference in the lives of people across Western Australia. Anglicare WA plays an important role in building strong families and communities, offering support, counselling and advocacy for people experiencing hardship, including homelessness, family and domestic violence, poverty, grief and mental health challenges. They focus on dignity, respect and inclusivity, and walk alongside people in times of need to help them thrive and belong.

The Central Park Plunge is a high-energy charity event held annually in Perth, where participants abseil 130 metres down Central Park Tower to raise vital funds for local charities. Over the years, the Plunge has raised millions of dollars for Western Australian causes, making it not just a personal challenge for those taking part, but a powerful way to support organisations like Anglicare WA that are committed to positive social impact.

Thank you to everyone who got involved in Silly Socks for the Summit today – your enthusiasm, generosity and school spirit will help make a meaningful contribution to this worthy cause. If you would still like to donate or support our Central Park Plunge team, please contact Ms Yoxall for details on how you can be part of their fundraising journey.

Experience Samoa

We are pleased to offer Year 10 and Year 11 students the opportunity to participate in the AngliSchools Samoa Service-Learning Trip in 2026. This exciting international experience provides students with a meaningful chance to engage in service, cultural immersion, and personal growth while travelling to the beautiful Pacific island nation of Samoa.

Throughout the trip, students will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the daily life of All Saints Anglican School in Apia, supporting children’s learning and participating in a range of community-based projects and activities. Students will also experience Samoan culture first hand, learning about local traditions, lifestyle, and the strong sense of community that defines island life.

In addition to the service-learning focus, the trip includes a variety of enriching cultural experiences, such as visiting local markets, exploring historical landmarks, participating in traditional celebrations, and enjoying Samoa’s stunning natural environment – including coral reefs, beaches, and breath-taking scenery.

Two tour options will be available during the 2026 school holidays:

  • Tour 1: 19 June – 4 July
  • Tour 2: 18 September – 3 October

A student and parent information session was recently held with Dale Kelly, the Samoa Service-Learning Coordinator, giving families further insight into the program, expectations, and the valuable learning opportunities involved.

Expressions of Interest are now open, and places are strictly limited. Students who are interested in being part of this memorable and rewarding experience are encouraged to contact Ms Yoxall as soon as possible for further information.

Expressions of interest for Tour 1 close on February 20.

World’s Greatest Shave is back for 2026

One of the most inspiring and meaningful events on our service-learning calendar is returning in Week 9 – the World’s Greatest Shave, taking place on Friday 27 March.

Each year, our school community comes together to support the Leukaemia Foundation, raising vital funds to assist people living with blood cancer and their families. These funds help provide accommodation, transport, emotional support, and research that improves treatment and outcomes for patients across Australia.

Last year, our students and staff achieved an incredible result, we set a goal of $14,000 and surpassed it by raising $15,482. It was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community works together for a cause bigger than itself.

How to get involved

There are several ways students can be part of this year’s event:

  • Shave or cut your hair – Students are invited to sign up to shave their head or cut 20cm or more of hair to support the cause. Anyone interested is encouraged to come and see Ms Yoxall to find out more or to sign up.
  • Donate – Families and students can begin donating now using the following link: World's Greatest Shave - St George's Anglican Grammar School 2026
  • Show support on the day – Further details about how the school will recognise and celebrate the event will be shared with students in the coming weeks.

We will also be announcing our participating staff members soon, so stay tuned to see which teachers will be stepping up this year!

Volunteer hairdressers needed!

We are seeking parent and guardian volunteers who are qualified hairdressers or confident assisting with hair cutting to help on the day. If you are able to assist, please contact Ms Sadie Yoxall for further details – your support would be greatly appreciated in helping the day run smoothly.

We look forward to another incredible event this year and encourage all students to consider how they might be involved. If you have any questions or would like to sign up, please see Ms Yoxall.
