Dear Skye Families,
Welcome to the 2026 school year! I hope your summer break was relaxing and that you got to spend some quality time with your loved ones. It's been wonderful to see the many faces of our community back on the school grounds, and I have been thoroughly impressed by how smoothly our students have transitioned into their new classes. I want to give a special shout-out to our new Foundation students, who have started with such confidence and composure.
Next Tuesday marks our inaugural community event for the year, and we can't wait to see you at Meet The Teacher and Twilight Sports. Families will begin with an engaging strengths-based activity in their child's classroom, then participate in the exciting Skye PS Family Amazing Race, featuring 7 different activity stations around the school. It's going to be a fantastic afternoon of connection and fun!
This year marks the beginning of an exciting new partnership with the Fathering Project, and we're launching it with our Pizza and Planes event. The goal is simple but important: strengthening the bond between school and the father-figures in our community, because we know that engaged male role models play such a vital role in our students' wellbeing, self-confidence, and learning. For our first gathering, we'll have pizza, some hands-on paper plane fun, and we're thrilled to welcome special guest Rodney Eade, former AFL coach, who'll introduce the program and share his thoughts on how positive male involvement shapes children's lives.
Thank you to the families who have already contributed towards 2026! If you're in a position to contribute, we'd be incredibly grateful. Curriculum contributions make an enormous difference to our learning programs; they're the difference between students having access to hands-on science equipment or relying solely on digital tools, and between offering specialist art materials for creative projects or sticking to basic supplies. Every contribution directly enhances your child's learning experience.
2026 voluntary contributions
Curriculum: $180 per student

This week's PTF Annual General Meeting was a fantastic success, with an impressive turnout of parents eager to get involved and support our school community. The PTF is vital to bringing our community together, creating opportunities for parent engagement, organising enjoyable activities for students, and generating valuable funds for school initiatives. I'd like to extend my congratulations to our elected office bearers, and I'm excited about what we'll accomplish together in the year ahead with the entire team.
PTF President: Sally Woodall
PTF Secretary: Kate Yorke
As previously mentioned, TK Tuckshop is coming to our school this term with a great range of healthy and delicious food options. We'll be starting with Thursday deliveries (beginning 12th February) to see how it goes with our community, and depending on the response, we may expand to additional days down the track. Ordering is simple and convenient, just use the app anytime before 8am on Thursday morning, and meals will be delivered directly to your child's classroom.
Progress on the Ramp Upgrade Project continues, though things are moving a bit slower than we'd initially hoped. The temporary fencing will remain throughout Term 1, with the April school holidays used to complete otherwise disruptive works. A huge thank you to our students, parents, and teachers in the main building classrooms for adapting so well to the temporary line-up spots. The walkway around the BER will be required to be closed in the coming weeks, but we're working hand-in-hand with the builders to put in a temporary path, making sure parents, especially those with prams, can still move around the school without too much hassle.
As a fellow parent, I completely understand the juggling act that comes with school drop offs and pick ups. As we all readjust to our school year schedules, a gentle reminder that our yard supervision starts at 8:30am, which means students shouldn't be dropped off any earlier without a parent or guardian present. If your family needs an earlier arrival time, please consider enrolling in the before school care program run by Team Kids; it's a great solution for busy mornings.
A quick reminder about our Mobile Phone Policy: while students can bring mobile phones and wearables (smartwatches included) to school, they must be turned off and stored securely at the front office during school hours. Please note this applies to all watches, even those with school mode activated like Spacetalk watches. If there's ever an emergency and you need to get in touch with your child, just give the front office a call and we'll connect you.
Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ privacy policy and the Schools’ privacy collection notice.
Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students policy describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn. We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365/Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365/Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school.
Have a great fortnight!
Warm regards,
Tim
