From the Principal's Desk

Harmony Day

Tomorrow is Harmony Day.  This is a time for schools to acknowledge and celebrate our communities cultural diversity and reinforces every day how we can all support each other no matter where we come from.  Students are encouraged to wear something orange tomorrow.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent teacher interviews are happening this week.  We've closed off the bookings in COMPASS, but if you missed the opportunity to meet with your child's teacher you can still do so by contacting the office.

Year 6 into Year 7 Expression of Interest

To enrol your child in Year 7 for 2025, you will need to complete an Expression of Interest for Year 6 to Year 7 transition. The Expression of Interest (EOI) lets you indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7.

The EOI process will be available on the school website under the Enrolment tab, Moving to Highschool (https://year7.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/?schoolCode=2494).

After you submit an EOI and it has been assessed, your child will be offered a place at a high school.

If your child will not be attending a NSW Government high school next year, please let us know by completing a Placement Not Required form (this can also be found on the website under the Enrolment tab, Moving to Highschool (https://year7.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/?schoolCode=2494).

If you are unsure whether they will be attending a NSW Government school (you’ve applied for a private school, or you are moving interstate), we ask that you still complete an EOI and follow up with your school once a decision has been made.

The online process will guide you through your options and collect the information required to make the process as smooth as possible.

Online submissions are due: 4th April 2024

Defibrillator

The school now has a defibrillator, located outside on the office building wall for easy access if needed outside school hours.

Autumn Festival

The Armidale Autumn Festival is on Saturday 6th April.  Martin's Gully students are invited to walk with students from the other public schools under the Armidale Community of Schools banner.  I will send out further information in the week leading up to the festival.

Disco

It was great to see so many "crazy" students last Thursday at the disco.  All students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The SRC raised $350 that will now go to Ronald McDonald House.

Attendance

Above is our daily attendance rates for last week - Week 7.  As you can see Monday and Fridays are a concern. Remember, our attendance target is 93%.

Easter Hat Parade and Raffle

A reminder that our Easter Hat Parade is on next Thursday 28th March at 9.00am. The expectation is that the hats are made at home.  Students in K-2 will have the opportunity to make a simple hat in class that they could use. Parents/Grandparents are welcome to attend wearing their Easter Hats.

In the meantime, the P & C are holding an easter egg raffle.  Raffle tickets have been sent home.  Raffle tickets should be returned as soon as possible. The P&C are calling for donations of Easter items for the raffle.  These can be left at the office. There's also Hot Cross Bun Drive on which closes tomorrow.  Please go to the Qkr! app to place your orders.

PSSA Trials

Last Friday several students attended the Armidale Zone Hockey Trials.  Congratulations to Henley, Quade and Maddie who will now attend the North West Trials.

Tomorrow Logan, Joshua and Julian will attend the North West basketball trials and next Monday there's the North West Tennis Trials - Maddie, Olivia and Joshua will be attending.

Hockey Skills Day

Today the students were fortunate to participate in a hockey skills session thanks to Jake from Hockey New South Wales.

PAX Word of the Fortnight: TEAMWORK

Teamwork involves including others, allowing everyone to have a voice, leadership skills, listening skills, sharing and being respectful of others. At MGPS, we are all part of the team.

Discussion points:  How do you demonstrate good teamwork in class, during games or sports and in the community?
