Year Level Leaders Report

Year 7 Leader Report

The Year 7’s have settled into life at SOC remarkably well.

This month we have focussed on setting high expectations by ensuring we are bringing all required materials to every class and arriving at each class on time. I am pleased to report that most of our students have already established some productive organisation habits.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind our Year 7s to bring their student planners to every lesson. Here they should be noting any reminders about homework, school events and upcoming assessments. They also use their planners as an exit pass should they need to leave the classroom at any time throughout the day. From my experience teaching across all year levels, the highest achievers are always those who establish the most consistent organisation routines – including the use of their planner.

The Year 7s had the opportunity to spend more time with their Year 10 Peer support leaders this month, participating in student led activities in the Gym and on the Oval. It has been great to see our youngest students making connections within the wider school community.

I have also been thrilled to see the number of HRRRT points being awarded to our Year 7 students for exemplifying our school values of High Expectations, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Teamwork. I am looking forward to awarding our first bronze HRRRT certificates at our first assembly next term!

Congratulations to our wonderful Year 7 cohort on a fantastic start to their year – bring on Term 2!

Year 8 Leader Report

Year 8s had a great time at camp. We had a lot of students who showed our school values to a high standard, especially resilience as students engaged in tasks they found confronting to begin with.

New friendships were formed and positive relationships were made with their teachers. Well done to all students who completed the camp!

Overall the year 8s had a successful term and showed positive growth as a year Level.

We are looking forward to an even more successful term 2.

Year 9 Leader Report

I want to commend the hard work and resilience exhibited by our year 9 cohort in Term 1.

We are receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from students with reference to the new electives offered and the opportunity to enact student voice and agency.

I would also like to remind our Year 9 cohort that their coordination team have processes and policies in place to ensure equity, and the right of all teachers to teach, and learners to learn. On this note, I encourage students to communicate with their Mentor teacher and/or myself should they require support. I look forward to working with you all throughout the year, and remember, "You get out what you put in!"

Year 10 Leaders Report

.As we wrap up another term, I would like to acknowledge the efforts demonstrated by our Year 10 students. Throughout the term, students have made a consistent effort to be punctual to school and their classes, adhered to the school’s uniform policy, and, most importantly, they have demonstrated our school values: high expectations, responsibility, resilience, respect, and teamwork.

Looking ahead to the next term, students will need to focus on ensuring all classwork, homework tasks, and CATs are completed to the best of their ability and submitted on time. Furthermore, with Semester 1 exams fast approaching in June, it's essential for students to start revising Term 1 content across all subjects. I encourage students to explore effective exam revision strategies that will help them achieve success in their exams.

As we bid farewell to Term 1, I would like to wish each and every one of our students a relaxing and rejuvenating break. You have all worked tirelessly over the past few months, and now it's time to recharge and unwind. Whether it's spending time with family, pursuing personal interests, or simply taking a moment to relax, I encourage you to make the most of this well-deserved break.

Looking forward to seeing you all next term.

Years 11 Leader Report

Term 1 is ending and upon reflection, it has been a highly involved time. We managed all the processes in place for a smooth start and finish despite the initial disruptions caused by flooding. Students have settled in with their course requirements and adjustments.

Parent/Guardian/Student conferences are coming up and this is an opportunity to be in contact with teachers about what has been achieved so far and what needs further consideration in terms of learning.

Students participated enthusiastically in extracurricular events throughout the term which have enriched their school experience.

Our recent senior assembly celebrated the positives, and it was an opportunity to come together as a senior cohort. We end the term with the CAD Walkathon and that should prove to be an involved day. The term break should be a time to rest, reflect and catch up on the next units and areas of study. Students need to reassess their term goals and re-set for a vibrant start to Term 2.

Have a restful break and a fresh start next term.

Always remember our school values which are also our life values.

Dear Year 12 Students and families

As the term break approaches, it's essential to recognise the importance of utilising this time for both academic preparation for the upcoming term and personal wellbeing. While it's tempting to entirely switch off from studies, dedicating some time to revision can make a significant difference in your academic performance. Similarly, prioritising your mental health ensures you return to school feeling refreshed and ready to tackle challenges.

As you navigate your term break, aim for a balance between revision and self-care. Allocating time for both ensures you make the most of your break while setting yourself up for success in the upcoming term.

Remember, your wellbeing is just as important as your academic achievements. By prioritising both, you'll return to school feeling refreshed and motivated, and ready to tackle whatever challenges come your way.

Wishing you a restful and rejuvenating term break!
