End of Term 1: Careers News

SOC students were able to participate in two industry immersion days throughout Term 1.  These excursions were facilitated by Monash Tech School and provided a great opportunity for students to learn more about a particular industry and the careers, training and tasks involved in that field.  Not only are the days immersive and filled with activities and experiences but students get to meet and interact with industry experts and professionals in that area as well.

In early February a few students took part in a Cyberpowers Industry Immersion Day. Here they explored the humanitarian aspects of cybersecurity.

In early March 11 of our students had the opportunity to go to a Supersport Industry Immersion held by Monash Tech School in Moorabbin. Students were able to investigate pathways in the AFLW, Technologies and Communication sectors. The girls participated in fun sessions run by Holmesglen Sports staff and supported by St Kilda Club Officials.

Many industry immersion days are coming up this year. Any student interested in the following Immersion days coming up please send me a message through Teams or email me:

Holmesglen Health Showcase (Year 10 only)

(Investigate career pathways in the health industries sector)

TheTrade & Tech Fit Career expo is returning on 9th May. This expo is designed for female and gender-diverse students to experience skills in traditionally male industries. If any female students from Year 9-12 are interested, please send me a message in teams or email me on athena.gerostathos@education.vic.gov.au

Work Experience (Year 10)

Could all Year 10 Students interested in work experience please come and collect a work experience form from me before the school holidays.

Work experience is a great opportunity to secure a part-time job as well as an opportunity to work within the professional field of interest, i.e.: Allied health, Law firms, and Beauty Industry to name a few. Once you have secured a placement you will need to complete the safe@work general and specific modules. I encourage students to secure a placement for over the holidays and NOT during exam times or other school event dates.

Year 9 Morrisby Interviews

Thank you to the students who were able to complete their Morrisby profiling and were interviewed by Morrisby Practitioners. The feedback from the practitioners was that the students were engaging and interested in their career pathways. Students who have not completed their profile,  please ensure that this is completed over the school holidays so I can arrange interviews for Term 2.
