This week in Reading, students are learning about how author's structure and organise Haiku poem. They are also investigating features of a Haiku.
VOCABULARY
Haiku Poem: Is an unrhymed Japanese poetic form that consists of 17 syllables arranged in three lines containing five, seven and five syllables.
Syllables: A unit of pronunciation having one vowel sound, with or without surrounding consonants, forming the whole or a part of a word.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
This week with your child read the poem below and ask them the following:
- What do you notice about the poem?
- Can you read the poem clapping the syllables?
- How many syllables are there in each line?
