Hello everyone!! Welcome back to Term 2!! I hope you all had a wonderful holidays and possible enjoyed the warmer weather for a while! I had a wonderful holidays spending time with my family and friends. I hope you all managed to do the same!

 

How exciting that we are back for another term! The kids have settled back really well into the term already! It is always so wonderful seeing all the kids come back from the holidays feeling happy and excited to see their friends!

 

Respectful Relationships

This term for Respectful Relationships, the topic we will be covering is 'Positive Coping'. Respectful Relationship lessons occur once a fortnight for 30 mins. The other fortnight is our PBL lessons about our behaviour expectations. Below are the areas and skills the students will be covering and learning about.

 

Foundation

  • Reflect on their emotional responses
  • Discuss ways in which they can take responsibility for their actions
  • Describe ways to express emotions to show awareness of the feelings and needs of others
  • Practice techniques to deal with feelings of fear and anger.

1/2

  • Reflect on their emotional responses
  • Discuss ways in which they can take responsibility for their actions
  • Describe ways to express emotions which show awareness of the feelings and needs of others
  • Practice techniques to deal with feelings of fear, frustration and anger.

3/4

  • Investigate how emotional responses vary in depth and strength
  • Identify and describe strategies to manage and moderate emotions in a range of familiar and unfamiliar situations
  • Identify a range of productive coping strategies for use in different situations
  • Learn and practice self-calming techniques.

5/6

  • Identify a range of coping strategies to help them deal with intense emotions
  • Identify the influence of self-talk on their actions and emotions
  • Identify and explain factors that influence effective communication in a variety of situations.

Friendship Groups

Friendship groups will be starting in week 3! Last term we focused a lot on developing a positive growth mindset. This term we are going to do work around Resilience. Friendship groups meet every second Friday afternoon.

Upcoming Events:

5/6 Incursion

On Tuesday 23rd April, the 5/6 students will be having a wellbeing workshop from The REACH Foundation.  This incursion will be part 1 of 2 workshops that they will be having this year. The workshop on Tuesday will be focusing on 'Peer Connections'. This workshop aims to create a safe space for students to express themselves. Peer connections works towards building a positive peer dynamic within the classroom and builds empathy, curiosity and understanding of others.
