5/6L
Welcome to 5/6L!
Wow, we have had some busy weeks to end Term 1 in 5/6! From NAPLAN to buddies to Gala Day we have had such a memorable start. Here’s a snapshot of our wonderful learning.
Resilience Project:
Our focus this week has been unpacking the meaning of empathy. What does it look, sound like, and feel like? Our students have found the same in their peers, writing a newspaper article about what they have seen them do around the school. We have also created an ‘Empathy Graffiti Wall’ filled with powerful reminders of what we can do to be empathetic students. Empathy is all about understanding and sharing how others may be feeling.
Literacy:
During Term 1 we have continued reading in fluency pairs. Here, students are partnered up and take turns reading a page for one minute each for eight minutes total. This is to help us become readers who can pronounce words accurately, read smoothly, vary their voice, and pay attention to punctuation.
Maths:
We have been learning different strategies for addition and subtraction. We have learned that we cannot always use the same strategy so it is important to work out problems in different ways. We have also had to explain our thinking on how we got to a solution. This will help us when we are applying our knowledge to a range of situations.
Holy Week:
This week we are learning about Holy Week. So far we have learned about Palm Sunday, where we had to act out particular scenes. We enjoyed working in groups to act out a scene from a script. We are lucky to have four other rotations with the other 5/6teachers about Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the crucifix. Thank you to Mr Kumar for making our wonderful crucifix for the classroom. The students will get a chance to make a crucifix for other classrooms around the school.
Thank you for taking the time to see what is going on in 5/6L!
