A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It was wonderful to welcome our students back to school on Monday.  All looked rested and happy, and l congratulate them for settling back into learning and their school routine so successfully.  Thank you to all families for their support of our Swell start to Term 2 – so many students were dressed in colourful clothes and thank you to our staff for dressing up to support a happy welcome back for the term.

It was wonderful to see so many of our families join us last term for our Lenten reflections and the drawing of the Easter raffle. Special thanks to students and teachers for their reflective representations of the Holy Week events.  It was a very reverent assembly and l thank Kate, staff and students for their great work presenting these important faith events to our community.

Working Together

Given recent incidents of violence, it is crucial to acknowledge the potential impact on our children, particularly as they may encounter related information online. Disturbing imagery and footage often circulate through social media, compounding the challenge of trying to safeguard our children from these images.

I encourage all parents to remain vigilant about the effects this content can have on their children should they come across it.  As educators, safeguarding our students’ safety and well-being is paramount.  For guidance on supporting children through trauma of disaster related news coverage, valuable resources are available from the Trauma and Grief Network and eSafety Commissioner website.

In these difficult times our community remains steadfast, and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by these distressing events.

Showcase of learning

We are looking forward to welcoming Prep and SLA parents and friends into classrooms tomorrow Friday 19th April, and JLA & MLA parents and friends on Friday 3rd May. We hope you enjoy hearing about the learning that is happening in the classroom. Students have been working extremely hard on their presentations and are excited to share their learning with the school community.

If you have a school aged child to enrol for next year, please collect an enrolment pack from the office.  We have further tours next week and if families would like to join a tour, please contact Michele by ringing the office or via email: michele.hides@sjwreservoirnth.catholic.edu.au

Enrolments for Prep 2025 close at the end of Term 2.

Uniform

Our mild weather has continued this week, and it has been wonderful to enjoy some sunny days.  However, next week the weather is going to be cooler so moving forward all students are expected to be in full Winter uniform at the beginning of Week 3, Tuesday 30th April.

Just a reminder that students are expected to wear black school shoes (except on Sport days).  This does not mean that black sneakers can be worn instead of school shoes.  If you are unsure about uniform expectations, l encourage parents to check our policy on our school website so everyone is clear about the correct uniform their child/ren should be wearing.

Please remember that the only jewellery that is allowed to be worn at school is a religious necklace (crucifix, holy medal or scapular on a modest, simple chain) and this will be removed while undertaking physical activity.  Also, only one earring per ear and all earrings must be studs.  Earrings must be worn on the LOBE of the ear and no dangling earrings are allowed.

At St Joseph the Worker it is expected that parents provide their child/ren with the correct school uniform at all times and abide by our uniform policy.

Maintenance

There has been some work completed at our school during the holidays.  Each year a playground audit is conducted as part of our Occupational Health and Safety compliance. This was completed in February and maintenance of our playground has been completed to ensure it is safe and compliant to regulations.  We have taken measures to enhance safety in areas prone to falls or trips by incorporating yellow paint and yellow tiles.

As some of you may have heard, during the Easter break, fragments of asbestos were discovered in several parks and playground areas. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is paramount to us. Therefore, a thorough visual inspection of the soft fill has been conducted, and I'm pleased to inform you that no asbestos was detected in the tanbark.

Photographs & Videos

A friendly reminder that under our child safety requirements, parents are only allowed to take photos of their own children. We kindly ask all members of our community to respect our legal obligations and ensure compliance with this.

St Joseph the Worker Day

Wednesday 1st May is St Joseph the Worker Feast Day. We will be celebrating with our students on this day, beginning with Mass at 9.10am.  Families are invited to join us to celebrate mass on our school feast day.  Please see our RE page for further details.

As we step into another term, I am excited about the opportunity to work alongside you, sharing in the growth, learning, and collaboration that lie ahead. As we embark on this journey together, let us embrace to embrace the challenges and successes that await us.

May St Joseph the Worker protect us.

Kind regards,

Maria Barnes
