NEWS & ADMINISTRATION

Mrs Caroline Galea

Dear Parents,

Thank you to those who came out on Saturday afternoon/evening and helped make our car show such a successful event. Talking to many of our parents, the car show was a relaxed environment where they and their children had fun. Thank you to the many families, students and staff that helped out on the day, we could not have done it without you!  We also had a number of sponsors on the day that either helped out in monetary terms or by providing an item for our raffle and/or auction.

Another group I would sincerely like to thank is the car show committee for their time and dedication in setting up and organising the car show behind the scenes. Thank you to Lou, Michelle, Stephanie, Adrian N,  Carmela, Adrian G, and Jackie for their continued support and their hard work.

This week, we have had a number of guest speakers that have spoken to the children.

We started on Monday morning with paramedics visiting our Prep students. Following on from that we had Paralympian, Josh Hose visit our 3-6 students, giving them the message that life can throw interesting curve balls, but regardless of what happens, they should never give up. Yesterday, we also had a visit from Carlton players Mitch McGovern and Blake Acres.

This week, we also experienced Math Day.  It was wonderful to see so many creative costumes.  The children then played Math games and followed this with math related picture story book activities.  (please refer to the Math page).

Last week, we also celebrated Catholic Education Week. Some of our children had their art work exhibited at the Catholic Leadership Centre.  Entrants in this exhibition came from all over the Melbourne Archdiocese from both primary and secondary settings.

As the public were invited to attend, one of Year 5 students took the opportunity to visit her artwork.

As a friendly reminder, we kindly ask that you please refrain from bringing your dogs onto the school grounds. While we love our furry friends, it's important to remember that not everyone may feel comfortable around them, and some may even be allergic. Additionally, dogs can create a safety hazard for our students. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all members of our school community. Thank you for your understanding.

Stations of the Cross

In preparation for Easter, each class was given one scripture passage that reflects a particular station of the cross.  Each class was asked to depict this scripture passage in some form of art and display this outside of their room. The staff will take the children around to visit each station. From Monday 25th of March, you are also most welcome when dropping off your children or picking them up to visit this art work.  (see Religion Page)

Prep Finish Time -Term 2

Currently the Prep students have been finishing 5 minutes before the rest of the children. As we move into Term 2, please note the Prep students will be finishing at 3:20pm with all the other students.

Winter Colds

As we approach the colder weather, winter colds and the flu are more highly likely to occur.  While we can't prevent them, we are trying to minimise the spread of these germs among the school community. There are many families among our community that need to avoid coming into contact with such germs or transferring them to older members of their family. We therefore ask that if your child is displaying cold and flu symptoms to keep them home. Just a reminder that covid is still around and the last thing that any of us want is to pass on covid, so please monitor and test your children when necessary.

Naplan Years 3 and 5

This week marks the end of Naplan for the majority of our students. There will still be some students that are required to make up tests that they have missed. This will happen this week.

Classroom Reps

Each year we put out a call for classroom reps. A classroom rep's role is to act as a conjuit between the school and the parents. They are also the point of call for new parents that may join Holy Name and they organise one or two outings for either the whole group (children and parents) or just parents. Now that everyone has had a chance to settle for 2024, we are asking for class reps. Please let Leanne know if this is something you are interested in.

Canteen

Just a reminder that if you place a lunch order in advance and your child is unwell, you need to cancel it prior to 8.30am on the day.
