From the Deputy Principals
How parents and carers can play an important role in motivating their children to learn and study.
Here are some tips:
- Set expectations and goals: Talk to your child about their academic goals and encourage them to set realistic expectations. Help them create a study schedule and stick to it.
- Create a conducive environment: Provide a quiet and comfortable space for your child to study, free from distractions like TV or mobile phones. Make sure they have all the necessary resources and supplies, such as textbooks, laptops and stationery.
- Encourage self-discipline and responsibility: Help your child develop self-discipline and take responsibility for their own learning. Encourage them to prioritise their studies and manage their time effectively.
- Celebrate successes: Celebrate your child's successes, no matter how small. Acknowledge their hard work and efforts and encourage them to keep going.
- Provide support and resources: Offer your child support and resources such as attending TASC (Teacher Assisted Study Centre - every Tuesday in the Library 3.10 - 4.10pm), visiting their teachers for support at recess or lunchtime, or educational apps that can help them learn and stay motivated.
- Stay involved: Stay involved in your child's education by attending parent-teacher nights and staying informed about their academic progress. Offer support and guidance whenever needed. Parent teacher Nights: Years 7, 11 &12 - Monday 6th May, Years 8, 9 &10 Monday 27th May.
- Talk your child’s Year Adviser via email or call the school. Our partnership is pivotal to supporting your child to grow emotionally and academically.
Mobile Phone Reminder:
The NSW Government has placed restrictions on the use of mobile phones in NSW high schools. These restrictions apply during all school hours including break times such as recess and lunch, as well as while students are on school-based excursions including sport. We encourage students to use their pouch to eliminate any breach to these restrictions. Staff have unlocking devices available when travelling away for sport or on school excursions. Failure to comply with the mobile and digital device procedures may results in an after school reflection, formal caution or suspension.
