Grade 1 and 2
THRIVING IN GRADE 1 AND 2
What a term it has been!
The students have really settled into the classrooms and are embracing all learning opportunities.
We have developed strong learning environments and continued to show our school values in and outside of the classroom.
Across Grade 1 and 2 we have continued to learn about sequencing events to be able to write and retell a narrative. We looked at various texts - picture story books, short films (without words), short episodes and short novels. We have been able to identify the beginning, middle and end of stories and clarify the problem and solution within them. Students have developed their own narratives with a focus on word choice, description and punctuation.
In numeracy, we have continued to focus on place value and extending our numbers from tens to hundreds to thousands. Students have explored numbers with counting forwards and backwards, skip counting and understand the value of a number within a bigger number. We have also been developing our understanding of months, seasons and using a calendar.
Harmony Week
Harmony Week is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together people from all different backgrounds. It's about INCLUSIVENESS, RESPECT and a SENSE OF BELONGING for EVERYONE. In grade 1 and 2, we spent a bit of time exploring these words deeply to gain a greater understanding of why we celebrate Harmony Day. We read stories about different people and being able to come together in harmony/peace. We reflected on how we are all different and how we are all part of the Andersons Creek Primary School community and beyond and the role we can play in continuing harmony in our world.
THRIVE
As we complete a hectic Term 1, we would like to thank all members of our school community for your ongoing support.
Since returning to school in Term 1, our whole school Thrive approach has really helped us to think about the social and emotional wellbeing of every child in ACPS from Prep to Year Six. Grade 1 and 2 students have been learning all about how they can build positive relationships with others and to be accepting of others in the class and the playground. Our students have also made positive affirmations, learning about being a good friend, completed growth mind set activities to build their self-esteem. They have developed their understanding that it is okay to make mistakes, and that we need to give things a go. Last but not least…….OUR COLOUR RUN!
A huge thank you to our entire ACPS community for making our Colour Run a huge success. It was amazing to see so many parents and friends join us to cheer on our students as they participated in a wonderful whole school event. A huge congratulations to our students who looked amazing and did a fantastic job completing the course in fine spirit. Your enthusiasm was contagious!
We want to remind the children of ACPS...how FANTASTIC they all are!!!
Happy Easter and have a safe and happy holiday break!
