STEM/Science

Science at MPS is guided by the Primary Connections Science curriculum.

Our Foundation students are exploring biology this term with the 'Growing Well' unit of work. They're investigating plant survival needs, plant structures, and water usage. Students compare plant needs to animals', conduct surveys, and represent their learning through drawings, graphs, and word walls. They have made some exciting discoveries!

Our Grade 1/2 students are diving into biology with 'Dinosaurs and More'! They're comparing modern animals with dinosaurs, exploring features, skeletons, and teeth types. Students will design shields inspired by dinosaurs' defences. They're representing their learning with drawings, diagrams, and annotated diagrams.

Grade 3/4 students have been exploring ecosystems and habitats, learning about different environments like forests and oceans. Students have investigated the relationships between living organisms and their surroundings. Through hands-on activities, they are discovering the importance of biodiversity for maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Grade 5/6 students look into biological sciences with Desert Survivors. They've been exploring how animals adapt to desert and forest environments. They have been learning about structural features aiding survival. They have been fascinated with nature's wonders!

It has been a busy time in the garden as well this term! Our garden has been full of tomatoes, corn, silverbeet, and kale. Students harvested seeds for our greenhouse and prepped beds for future planting. Beyond produce, it's a hub for sustainability education. Exciting times ahead for growth and learning! We couldn’t do all the things we do without the support and donations from our community so a big shout out to the families that gave us manure for our garden, it’s much appreciated.
