Japanese

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 2! We are excited to announce a special event at our school, bringing some cultural flair and fun to our learning environment! On Friday May 3rd, we will be celebrating Japanese Day in honour of Children's Day in Japan.

To make this day even more memorable, we invite all our students to dress up in Japanese-themed attire. Alongside the dress-up day, we kindly request a gold coin donation from each student, with all proceeds going to the Royal Children's Hospital. It's a wonderful opportunity for us to spread joy beyond our school and contribute to a worthy cause.

Throughout the week leading up to Japanese Day, our Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about the Japanese language and customs. As part of their learning journey, they've been studying the art of writing a message in Japanese. Learning phrases such as "To..." (・・・へ…e) and "From..." (~より…yori), they've been exploring the nuances of Japanese sentence structure, comparing it to English. It's been an enriching experience, fostering not only language skills but also cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.

On Japanese Day, we'll be celebrating with a variety of activities and displays that highlight different aspects of Japanese culture. From Taiko and Karate workshops to fan decoration and den den daiko (mini taiko) creation, there will be something for everyone to enjoy and learn from.

We hope you're as excited as we are to celebrate Japanese Day at Monty. Please join our assembly in the morning to enjoy some Taiko (Japanese drum) mini-concert and Karate performance!

Best Regards,

Junko Sensei
