Art & Technology
Art and Technology lessons target the following:
· Develop theoretical knowledge, and practical and technical skills
· To develop skills in visual and aural literacy and respond to different perspectives
· To encourage students to investigate multiple solutions to a problem
· To engage students in critical and creative thinking
· To strengthen student’s ability to work collaboratively, enhancing the sense of
belonging and community
Art
Encourages students to think conceptually, laterally and problem solve. Students focus on developing and refining their skills and techniques to create artworks. They practice from a broad range of disciplines including drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking and digital methods.
Music
Offers students the opportunity to participate in both solo and group musical activities that suit their abilities and tastes. They learn how to organise and stage a musical performance, create their own music and learn ways to record it.
Digital Technology
Enables students to become confident and creative developers of digital solutions through the application of information systems and specific ways of thinking about problem solving. Students acquire a deep knowledge and understanding of digital systems, data and information and the processes associated with creating digital solutions so they can take up an active role in meeting current and future needs.
Design Technology
Allows students to investigate design solutions through practical skills, design challenges and creative problem solving. Students work with a range of materials, including but not limited to wood, metal and plastics, and use tools, equipment and machines to test materials, processes and construction to produce finished products.
Food Technology
Focuses on the importance of food in our daily lives. Students understand food from a theoretical and practical perspective and apply this understanding to develop knowledge and skills in food preparation.
Media
Introduces students to the foundations of digital video production. They learn how to plan, produce and film quality images and sequences for a coherent and engaging video. Students explore media in a historical and cultural context, and apply their understanding to the investigation of media today.
Visual Communication
Focuses on the use of visual language to convey ideas, information and messages in the fields of communication, environmental and industrial design. Students learn and develop skills in visual language and design thinking to communicate ideas.
Students at Macleod College are offered the opportunity to work across a range of specialist areas. They have access to purpose built studio spaces that provides them with a rich experience using industry-grade materials, tools, cameras, hardware and software.
Year 7
Full year: Art, Design, Digital Technologies and Music.
Semester rotation: Design Technology, Food Technology
Year 8
Full year: Music
Semester rotations: Art, Drama, Design Technology & Food Technology
Year 9
Students select from a range of Art/Technology semester electives including Art, Visual
Communication Design, Drama, Design Technology, Food Technology, Food Technology - Patisserie, Media and Music.
