Year Two Team News

with Joel, Bianca I, Zoe and Rochelle

Hello Year Two families,

It has been a busy couple of weeks in Grade Two. The students are settled into their new environments and have adjusted to their weekly routines within the classroom. We have been impressed with the positivity and excitement that students are demonstrating while walking into school each morning. Our two Willy kid topics of ‘Ready to Learn’ and ‘Wonder’ have been front of mind and we look forward to these two qualities being valued and celebrated in our classrooms throughout the remainder of the year. From an organisation point of view, it has been great to have our students bringing in their blue book every day. We ask that this continues in order to complement our reading program in the classroom.

Meet the Teacher Night:

Thank you to all the families who attended our Meet the Teacher evening last Wednesday. It is always a great opportunity for us to learn more about your child and open up a pathway for future discussions on how we can support your child to have a wonderful year.

Parent Helpers in Grade 2:

We ask that all Grade 2 parents wishing to be a parent helper this year follow all the information that is on the Compass Newsfeed from the school to meet our schools protocols.

In Grade 2, being a parent helper can involve a variety of things. At this stage, the areas we will require parent help will be:

  • Attendance on excursions and local walks.
  • Attendance with our swimming programs.
  • Assistance in reading one on one with our students from Term 2.

JSC Representatives

Congratulations to all the students who prepared speeches for Junior School Council elections. We are all very proud of how our students stood up and shared all the ways they would make our school and community a better place to be. Our Grade 2 JSC representatives for this year are:

2J - Tom R

2I - William K

2W - Frankie W

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 5 - 6

Literacy: Over the next two weeks, we will be focusing on correct sentence structure and the correct use of capital letters and full stops within our writing.

Numeracy:  Students are learning about place value and addition. With the use of hands-on materials, we will be using a wide range of strategies and games to enhance our ability to accurately add and subtract numbers.

Inquiry:  Next week, we will begin our inquiry unit for the remainder of Term 1. Our unit is called ‘Where Are We and What is Around Us?’ We have already asked our students this question and discussed their views on this question. We look forward to reflecting on these discussions and building on the students' knowledge about our local area over the next few weeks.

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Learning, students will continue building on their skills as good listeners and showing that they can organise their belongings in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Sun Safety

It has been wonderful to see our Grade Twos bringing their hats to school and wearing them during break times. In Terms One, part of Term Three and Four, students are required to wear their hats during all outside play. Please ensure that your child’s hat is clearly labelled with their name so that it can be easily returned to them if misplaced.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Joel Kitchen (2J), Bianca Italiano / Zoe Kitchen (2I) & Rochelle White (2W)
