School Council News

On Tuesday we had our first School Council meeting for the year. Mat began by sharing his ‘start of year’ report. This began discussing the exciting first days for our 66 new Prep students. I was one of many dropping off a new Preppie, and both consoling and celebrating with other parents at the ‘tears and cheers’ catch up after the morning bell rang.
Mat shared about exciting events coming up this year, including a revamped art show, trivia night and the lantern walk. We also discussed the developing Annual Implementation Plan, which is a key document setting out the school’s plans towards our 2026 goals and beyond.
As would be expected, there was a lot of discussion on the ongoing maintenance works. We are privileged to have such historic buildings, which of course comes with some challenges. Although some maintenance inevitably finds other issues, things are progressing and we have planned contingency funding to deal with these additional issues. The junior toilets are fully completed and receiving rave reviews, so much so senior students are complaining enviously about their toilets (despite them being only a few years old!).
In closing, we discussed school communications, stressing the importance of everyone reading through the weekly newsletters, emails and keeping track on Compass. All classes also have a parent class rep who will also keep parents up to date.
We were sad to see several members of the council complete their terms. This creates opportunities for new parent members to join. We encourage parents to do so, it is a great chance to use your skills to advance the school, and you certainly learn a lot too. It is rare that elections are required, and current council members are happy to discuss more with anyone interested.
Next meeting - 17th March 2026.
