Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies Coastal Experience
Merrin Shannon
Last week the Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class participated in their Term 1 Coastal Experience. They visited sites at Tae Rak to look at the World Heritage Budj Bim landscape. We had an excellent talk from Rueben who showed us around the Kurtonitj environment. The Year 12s then visited the Twelve Apostles National Park at Port Campbell where we looked at the effects of mass tourism. After a night at Port Campbell, we drove to the Otway Fly where we experienced a breathtaking view of the Otway rainforest. We drove to Apollo Bay and saw rare and endangered animals at Wildlife Wonders. The park is 30 acres, creating a safe-haven for the bandicoots, potoroos, koalas and other native species who live here, protected from the feral predators – cats and foxes – which would otherwise prey upon them. After a long and winding drive up the Great Ocean Road, we stopped at Queenscliffe for the night. The next morning, we were taken off the coast by the Sea All Dolphins team to swim with seals and dolphins. An experience none of us will forget!
