Music
We have had a great start to Music lessons this year! In the middle and senior classes we have explored using a variety of drums, such as the djembes, bucket drums, hand held drums and even the rubbish bin drums! The Year 3/4's have explored drum techniques, keeping a steady beat (without getting faster and faster!) and creating their own rhythms.
The Year 5/6 students have built upon their prior knowledge and have been creating more complex rhythms. At one stage in our drumming circle we had 4 different drumming patterns being played together! Students have also been composing songs, raps and rhymes about their holidays.
In Foundation, students have been enjoying singing with Bruce the monkey, hiding with the dancing scarves and they have been introduced to percussion instruments such as the egg shaker, tapping sticks and frog guiro. We have played each instrument and discussed how these instruments make their sound - by shaking, tapping or scraping!
Choir also began this week with keen singers in Year 3 to 6 getting together to sing and prepare for our Beginning of the Year Mass next Wednesday evening. We have a few plans for our choir this year - so stay tuned!
Celebrating Italian Day at Sacred Heart!
We are excited to share that Sacred Heart will be celebrating Italian Day on Wednesday 11 March!
Italian Day will be a fun and engaging celebration of Italian culture, giving students the opportunity to experience Italy through music, food, and creativity.
What to expect on the day:
- Dress up: Students are encouraged to wear something Italian. This could be the colours of the Italian flag, Italian fashion, or a famous Italian person.
- Interactive Performance: Students will enjoy a lively and interactive performancewith Nadia Cavallo, whose songs are familiar to them through our Italian classroomlearning. This will take place in the Multipurpose Area.
- Italian Lunch: A special pizza, gelato and drink lunch will be available for students to enjoy. An order form with further details will be sent home shortly. We look forward to sharing this special cultural experience with our students.
