For Collegiate’s youngest learners, Term One centres on fostering a strong sense of belonging, particularly for those who are new to our School.
Children take great delight in exploring the Junior School campus, and these excursions are an essential part of understanding where they fit within our community—seeing their sisters or cousins in the playground and growing in confidence within the learning environment.

For returning children, it is a time to reaffirm friendships and deepen their connection to the wider community. They begin to spend more time beyond the campus, learning on the banks of the Hobart Rivulet. Learning in Country embeds critical values of respect, stewardship, and cultural connection.
We celebrate many milestones at the ELC, and birthdays are no exception. Children are beginning to understand that birthdays are a special occasion, and most delight in being the centre of attention—wearing the birthday cape and hat while their peers sing to them.
Lunar New Year is another important celebration at the start of the ELC calendar. Educators and families share their experiences and lead us in festivities, including tea ceremonies, decorations, and dumpling making.

Together, these shared experiences nurture a strong sense of belonging, ensuring every child feels connected, valued, and an integral part of our ELC community.
